Election year investing

I recently read an article in Kiplinger’s magazine that discussed election year investing, and the historical data around investing in an election year, in a year where the incumbent president is up for a second term, and other similar situations.  Historically the market has done better when in these cycles, but if you are an investor please don’t let these type of articles influence you to invest more during this year but please stay the course.  Investing is a long term process, and you should not be continually modifying your investment plan to try and chase returns or time the market.  The more you attempt to time the market, the more likely you are to miss some gains in the market while you are waiting for the right time.

Today at work I continued on my growing my knowledge base of the personal lines insurance products that we offer through our multiple carriers.  I started quoting my own insurance and getting used to the system, but with the little amount I have completed so far it looks like I’ll be saving money and doubling my coverage!!  This is really exciting for me, because now I know when I have meetings with clients, not only will I be able to help them better understand their policy but I’ll likely be able to get them better coverage for a competitive price.

I took the morning off from running, but I did do some pushups and situps.  A VERY small amount, but I know that I need to build those up.  I’m not even sure how long it’s been since I’ve done any abs/upper body exercising.  Ready to get back out on the road in the morning, going to start training for the Columbus Marathon next week.

Make every day great,

Chris

First day at MMA Insurance

Today was my first day of my new career, and I am happy to know that the agency has so similar thoughts around insurance and people in general as I have.  We are dedicated to helping clients to protect their assets, and really creating a service oriented agency.

I also finally got back into the running action this morning, I put in a 4 mile run.  If you follow me on facebook or twitter you will see my running updates, and if you also run or exercise and use dailymile.com add me as a friend on their and maybe we’ll be able to meet up sometimes to run.  Running is so much easier when you have someone to hold you accountable!

I also want to post something that may be of some assistance to those looking to save a little money.  I know that regardless of whether you have a lot of money or a little, sometimes it just feels nice to save a few bucks.  Now, I know that this app will not be accepted by everyone because it will slightly cut back on the convenience of phones, but check out the Textfree app.  It is an app for your tablet device, so if you don’t have the extra money to pay for the data plan on your phone or you are just interested in having the text capabilities on your tablet you may be interested.  The free version does have ads, but if the extra money you spend on the data plan burns you up, it would be well worth it.

If you live in Ohio and are looking for an insurance agent that you can trust, and will always do what they can to help you out?  Shoot me a message or comment here, or send me an email at chrism@mmains.net.  I’m in the process of making several connections throughout the community in many different industries, so I can even help to point you in the right direction if you are looking to purchase or get involved in something else.

A day at Muirfield

So, today I made my first trip to Muirfield for the Memorial Tournament ever.  There was almost no one there, (obviously first day of practice rounds and a holiday so I’m sure most of the golfers were with family) but I really enjoyed the course and time spent with my family.  I did get a few pictures of Ryu Ishikawa as he was playing the 9th and walking to the 10th tee.  We didn’t want to ask for autographs, since it just felt like it was interrupting his practice.

On another note, tomorrow marks my first day in my new career.  I am going to be working as a licensed independent insurance agent.  I will have a lot of carriers to write through, and am greatly looking forward to it.  If you have any insurance needs, or you are just trying to shop your homeowners, auto, business renewal policies let me know and I’ll do the shopping for you.  I have a solid background in commercial insurance and more specifically construction.  I am willing to go above and beyond to not just assist you with your insurance needs and goals but as an advisor in many different arenas.  I will be making several connections throughout the central Ohio area and I will be able to point you in the right directions for any needs you have.
